We have a wide range of stock and custom stair parts to meet your projects requirements.
Whether you are building a stair, or replacing parts on an existing stair, most of our stairs are constructed on-site at our manufacturing facility in Somerset, MA. We offer the largest variety of in-stock and special order stair parts in the region, or we can custom build parts to your exact specifications. The quality of our stairparts is unmatched.
Fitts Design Tool
Fitts has introduced a design tool allowing you to configure your favorite baluster profile and share your stair layout with your builder.
North Atlantic is a large stocking dealer of Fitts Stairparts, a world leading manufacturer of high quality stair components. In addition to Fitts stock balusters, we custom turn balusters to your specifications under our brand Cooper Stairparts. We are also a dealer for Prestige Metal balusters.
For CAD drawings of our balusters, visit our Stairs CAD Library.
Cooper Stairparts’ standard square balusters are available in 1-1/4″, 1-1/2″, and 1-3/4″ x 36″ or 42″ in poplar, red oak, or yellow pine. Save time and have us prefinish them in house with our Fortress Coatings Systems.
Handrail and fittings
A perfectly designed handrail profile strikes a delicate balance between form and function. A safe handrail must be easy to grasp by any size hand. A beautiful handrail mirrors the other architectural elements of the home and looks stunning from both above and below. We are proud to offer handrail from Fitts as well as our customer Cooper Stair parts handrail. All Cooper handrail and fittings are made in our own shop and available in many wood species.
For CAD drawings of handrails, visit our Stairs CAD Library.
Custom Carved Handrail
Our CAD department and state-of-the-art CNC machines work together to create custom curved handrails in any profile and species. Simply provide us with a drawing or template and we will create the perfect custom curved rail for your project.
From a centuries-old farmhouse in Canterbury, NH to an ornate Victorian on the East Side of Providence, RI. From a classic Colonial in Cambridge, MA to an oceanfront cottage in Portland, ME. Cooper box newels complement almost any architectural style found in homes throughout New England and beyond.
Customers love the quality of Cooper Box Newels – unlike many competitor’s newels, ours are solid throughout. For CAD drawings of newels and posts, visit our Stairs CAD Library.
Each end of the post has a custom fitted protective cap that suspends the newel in the box. Our double wall corrugated cardboard boxes enable us to safely ship our newels and assure they arrive in perfect condition.
You love the seamless look of over-the-post staircase construction, but also want a starting newel that makes a bold statement. The Cooper Stairworks signature legacy newel can transform an ordinary entryway into a grand foyer.
All Legacy newels are made-to-order and available in any wood species.
North Atlantic carries an extensive stock of treads in Oak, Maple, Yellow Pine, and Plywood. Treads can be returned by the shop at any length, right, left or both ends. Standard treads of nosed on one edge, square three sides, with sanded face. Returned treads are nosed on two edges (specify left or right).
Risers are stocked in Oak, Yellow Pine, Plywood, Poplar, Clear Pine and FJ Primed Pine. Tongue tread and grooved risers available (not with stock returned treads).
See our Stairparts Brochure for all stock sizes and special order options.
Starting steps replace the beginning treads on a stair, and make an impact on the overall stair design. Starting steps are stocked in Single and Double Bullnose, Single and Double Bullnose Half Circle, and Single End and Double End Quarter Circle. Custom lengths and curves are available in any species with matching, paint grade, or primed riser. Includes cove moulding to match riser material.
Winder treads are 3/4″ or 1-1/32″ thick. Custom winder treads are available in your choice of species. Custom winders require a template and will be made 2″ oversize. Winders over 8.75 sq ft are not guaranteed.
The ZIPBOLT™ UT Rail Bolt uses the same hole boring configuration as traditional rail bolts, but its ease of installation makes it very different. The ZIPBOLT™ UT one-piece totally integrated gear head replaces the old nut and washer making it quick and simple to join stair parts together using common bits and drivers. Instead of trying to fit a nut and wrench into a 1″ hole, the installer easily tightens the bolt with a hex driver bit and an adjustable torque drill or ratcheting screwdriver, or a simple allen wrench can be used.
Plugs, fasteners, brackets – we have everything you need for clean installation. Visit our store to purchase online. We also have accessories that will soon be in our store that will help you add the finishing touches to your project. Check back for return nosing, landing tread, cove and more.
